Importing and exporting information in accounts

Required Tempo product: Tempo Timesheets for Cloud or Tempo Planner for Cloud

Required permission: Tempo Account Administrator

As a Tempo Account Administrator, you can import and export information directly to and from a CSV file. This is a quick and easy way to transfer large amounts of data quickly. 

Importing from an existing CSV file

Before you import information into Accounts, you should ensure that it's formatted in a way that Tempo can read the information. The following columns can be read by Tempo. Columns that are required are marked in bold.

  • Account Key (each key must be unique)
  • Account Name
  • Account Lead Username (must match an existing username)
  • Category Key (if you include a Category Key you must also include a Category Name, and vice-versa)
  • Category Name
  • Customer Key (if you include a Customer Key you must also include a Customer Name, and vice-versa)
  • Customer Name
  • Global Account (must be either true or false)
  • JIRA Project Keys (you can have multiple JIRA Project Keys, comma separated)

If you are unsure about how to best format your content, you can use the simple CSV template we have provided by downloading it from the Tempo > Tempo settings > Accounts page and adding in your data as needed.

  1. Select Tempo > Tempo settings or click the gear icon on the Tempo sidebar.
  2. Under Accounts, select Import/Export.
  3. Click the Import button.
  4. On the Map CSV fields to Account attributes screen, match up the account attributes with the CSV header rows by selecting the appropriate row from the drop-down. If you use the recommended CSV header rows from the template, these fields will auto-fill. Screen_Shot_2017-07-07_at_4.55.29_PM.png
  5. In the Validation screen, Tempo validates the CSV file and indicates if there are any problems with converting the information, such as duplicated values or user names that cannot be found in the system.
  6. Below, there are two Import Options. You can select if you want to update the list of current accounts with the new imported accounts, or archive all existing accounts and replace them with the imported information.

Exporting to a CSV file

As a Tempo Account Administrator, you can also export all of your accounts into CSV format:

  1. Select Tempo > Tempo settings or click the gear icon on the Tempo sidebar.
  2. Under Accounts, select Import/Export.
